7 people, the end of exams, and an overseas trip to Phuket, Thailand - constitute to 5Es - An exhilarating, exciting, enjoyable, and ever-so-wonderful experience. More importantly, is how it was spent in the warmth and comfort of adored company.

DAY 1

The journey began with me waiting for quite some time, for my dear friend, Norfi in the early morning at the pick up point near my place. "My dad doesn't like people to be late" was the heads up that I had gotten. Apparently, people did not refer to his own daughter. Then again, I've already gotten used to it. XD And so heading out to the budget terminal, on arrival, we realised that sm had gotten the time wrongly and we were all there half an hour early. So much for more sleep. All this were inconsequential however, because, the fun was only starting..

Fun and camwhoring seemed to have gone down in the history book starting from recent years (largely due to our generation - gen X), and so, we started snapping away from breakfast, to checking in, to waiting for our flight to take off. Oh wait, even on board the flight itself (whether or not we were allowed to, that's a different story). When we finally reached the airport at phuket (still continuing the trend of camwhoring), two GREAT bargainers emerged (just part of the chemistry they share perhaps?). From a price of 1000 baht, we ended up paying 750 baht for a taxi ride to the hotel, and that was after many pretense of leaving to look for a different taxi company.

Arriving at Silver Resortel, I was rather surprised to see that it was way more decent that I had expected (since i had been to Thailand on an overseas exercise during NS, my expectations were pretty low), with the hotel having a nice room, excellent location (in between the beach and shopping haven) and presented a pleasant accommodation. Without further ado, we settled down, took our important belongings, and head out onto the streets of phuket on what would be an exciting shopping journey.

We visited the shopping mall called Jungceylon (which sort of became our hangout place in the 3 days we were there), and bought near-midnight movie tickets for Ninja Assassin, to be watched later. We then headed out to the street stalls for more shopping, before docking back at hotel. Leaving to shop for the second time, we were met with a heavy downpour. Having only three umbrellas, the 7 of us had to make do with what we had, and make our way back to the shopping mall to catch our movie. The result? 7 dripping wet zombies walking the face of the earth, arriving at the shopping mall, freezing through our skin. In all fairness though, the downpour was what contributed to the excitement in our shopping journey, with us laughing merrily about it (and surprise surprise, even more snapshots) with no trace of our mood being dampened by 'puny' drops of water falling from the sky.

The movie, Ninja Assassin, was gory right from the start, and blood seemed to be spilled EXCESSIVELY just for the sake of proving its mature rating. Even though the movie was not all that hyped up to be (same creators of "the matrix"), the process was still rather interesting to say the least. Surprisingly though, in spite of being drenched, and having to lend my jacket to shaline, I wasn't feeling cold. Perhaps the biological reaction of providing warmth to the sweet looking thing on my left, made me "hot" enough to sustain through the movie.

With all of us yawning as we made our way out of the cinema, we headed back to our hotels, took a well deserved nice warm bath, and was soon heading for dreamland....

Day 2

Our second day began with an early start at 7.30am, since on the day before, we purchased a full-day ATV (all terrain vehicle) tour for 1,900 baht (of course, not without bargaining down from 3000 baht, thanks again to our bargain king and queen). Hopping on to the van (that arrived a little late), we soon met up with our co-tourists that consist of a cross-racial English couple (who were on their honeymoon), a European with his "thai gf", and an Essex Englishman called Jason whom we did not interact much with, until the later part of the day.

After a one hour journey from our hotel, we arrived at a "kampong" site, and as there were limited ATVs, the phuket gang (us) decided to entertain ourselves by playing camp games (baram, baram.. baram, baram) and basically just crapping around. One hour passed by in a flash (or at least for me), and it was our turn to hop on to the ATVs. First squeeze of the accelerator, and immediately, adrenaline was pumped into my veins. Then again, first squeeze of the brake, and I knew that my thumb would be aching at the end of the day. It was indeed exhilarating going up and down the rocky slopes, despite a few girls (NON-NAGA to point it out) having "crashed and burned" so to speak. Shall not mention what our dear Jas did (coughbangintoatreecough) to protect the reputation of naga girls being relatively good drivers. As I had tonnes of experience tailgating (in sg), the guide that led us along told me to stay in front and keep close to him, and at the same time striking a conversation with me and giving me a personal tour. Was no doubt even greater fun when he allowed us to pick up speed near the end, and showed us how to drift, and even went on 2 wheels, which unfortunately, was where my mimicking skills stopped.

Bidding good bye to our faithful ATVs (I seriously grew attached to that little green thing in that short 1 hr), we hopped on the van once again, and headed for monkey cave. In the midst of the journey, being monkey-like myself, I was constantly reminded that I was revisiting my ancestors, descendants and relatives. They weren't exactly wrong though, when I bought an ice cream and had to be "on the move" so that I would maintain the one to finish it. It was like running away from my nephew to prevent him stealing my stuff. However, as there wasn't that much to see there, we soon left, and headed for our whitewater rafting location where our lunch awaited (YAY!).

The moment we stepped out of the van, my keen sense of smell immediately picked up the scent of food (oh, glorious food), and without further ado, we were all waiting at the table for our dishes to be served. We had deep fried chicken drumstick (which was rather cold, but still yummy IMO), mixed vegetables, tom yam koong, and the best of all, omelette, which was a delightful meal indeed (once again, to me at least). Not knowing that whitewater rafting was immediately after lunch, I ate up all the leftovers on my table, including nora's leftover rice. Feeling satisfied but bloated, I put on my lifejacket and headed on with the others where we were briefed on what we were supposed to do on board the raft. We soon met up with our "rafters" (each raft had 2 local rafters), and by chance, ours was pretty entertaining. We sure had a hell of a time bumping up and down waves, screaming, shouting, splashing water at other people, colliding into boats and various obstacles, doing 360 turns, and getting injured by my oar (having hit the front rafter twice on each leg, and hitting jas on her chin =X). The 5km down slope thus seemed a tad short, when we soon realised we had reach the end, and were whisked away to our next location, a waterfall. Being the hyperactive children we were, we jumped into the waterfall water, despite its freezing cold temperature, and splashed around like we were 10. Unfortunately, our camwhoring could not continue, not because of us becoming sane, but because the camera's battery had run out. Nonetheless, it had already been ingrained into our minds.

Returning onto the mini-lorries, we were brought to yet again, our next adventure - elephant trekking. Though it wasn't the first time I was sitting on an elephant, it sure was a new experience for me to be sitting on one that would be walking through the forest/jungle, through cliffs, lakes, and various obstacles. A bumpy ride, is a far from apt description of the journey, and only the cheeks of my buttocks can truly understand the actual process. An interesting thing to point out though, was how the elephants showed no sign of constipation, while defecating (in ball-like shape), and even seemed oblivious that they were in the process of doing so.

With our last adventure for the tour in the bag, all that was left for us to do was head back to our hotel to dock once more. This time round, it was a 2 hrs journey back, and as much as I would like to say that I slept soundly throughout, the uneven roads of Phuket prevented me from doing so. That was the least of my worry though, as I had a hearty conversation with my fellow passenger for the remaining 1 hr of the journey, in what must be my softest voice ever (yes, I can talk SOFTLY too).

The rest of the night was pretty mundane (yes, more street shopping, and snacking), with the exception of us looking high and low (literally) for candles (in planning nora's bday surprise), and even having to mime spastic actions to ask for directions of its location. When the clock struck 12, we burst into a "happy birthday" song for nora, as it was her 19th birthday, at their local convenience store. Having also bought some drinks on the way back, we drank and chatted away into the night back at the hotel, and before long entered slumber yet again..

Day 3

Aware that we still had not bought a cake for the candles to be place on, WL and I left the hotel to purchase the next best alternative we could find at the convenience store, a rounded brownie (I swear the nice looking cakes that were placed there only appeared at night). After everyone had written on her birthday card, we headed to Nora's room, armed with poppers, waiting to give her the "morning of her life". Thankfully, to the skilled fabrication and weaving of words by Jas, Nora was still lying in bed, which allowed us to give her a successful surprise. Camwhoring resumed once again, and then we prepared to head out for a day at Patong beach.

Of course, we had to have breakfast first, and after walking for a while without any other alternatives, we settled for Macs. It was there where I ate a double BIG MAC (yes, 4 beef patties) and Shao Ming ate a TRIPLE cheeseburger. Feeling full and satisfied once again, we left for the beach and purchased 7 seats, and comfortably lie and bask in the sun's glory, though most of it was taken away by the clouds.

Not long after, we were approached by a local, who we concluded was a thai version of Yong Nan, in NO PART due to his melodramatic actions and animated movements, when our bargain king and queen deliberated with him. First of all, we bargained down the price of para-sailing from 1000 baht, to 750 baht (for joyce and myself), and bargained up the time for jet-skiing from 30mins to 41mins (yes.. forty-ONE minutes), bundled with a banana boat ride.

Before I knew it, I was wearing harnesses wrap tightly around me, hooked up, and dragged up into the air into the wind's current. Soaring higher with each distance the speedboat traveled, I started humming five for fighting's superman <"I can't stand to fly... I'm not that naive...">. It was indeed a feeling to remember, having get brushed by the strong wind currents at that sort of altitude, and upon returning to shore, my adrenaline was sky-high and I was ready for more!

So, on to the banana boat we go! It was extreme highness, for the 6 of us riding the waves, as we sang tunes, did camp cheers, and basically just went berserk at every opportunity we could. The speedboat that was dragging us did a sharp turn, and all 6 of us went straight into sea in all different directions. Our immediate reactions? Coughing out the extremely salty water upon resurfacing, probably because all our mouths were opened when we went in. In trying to climb back on, we struggled quite a bit due to the slippery surface of the banana boat. When all five of us had got up onto the boat, our dear papa shao ming tipped all of us back into the water, when he was trying to get himself up. After some more struggling, we finally got everyone back up, and was ready to ride the waves yet again. The second time round, the speed boat picked up speed and gave us more "near misses" which made it all the more entertaining. Going berserk once more, we remembered to close our mouths (at least I did) when thrown into the sea a second time. When we were done with everything, we were in such elation that we began playing our own games (frisbee, volleyball and more water splashing) while waiting for our turn on the jet ski.

When it came our turn on the jet ski, I was taught by the "instructor" on how to control it (due to his stereotype that guys would be drivers), and riding the waves brought immediate ecstasy! With my secretary holding on tight, and triggering full throttle on the accelerator, the onslaught of waves made my heart beat to a whole new level. We then decided to do a role-swap, and as I became the passenger, the riding of waves became the ride of a lifetime.

With our water sports coming to a close, and in subsiding our excessively high adrenaline, we "took a chill pill" and laid on our beach chairs, and dozed off into the sounds of the sea..

Then came the last dinner that we would have at Phuket. With all of us reaching a consensus, we decided that it would only be fair to ourselves to indulge in a seafood feast in dedication of the amazing things that we had done on this trip. Dish after dish of seafood appeared magically on our table, and bowl after bowl of rice disappeared from sight into my stomach. It was certainly a feast to remember (and a diet to forget).

Finishing whatever last minute shopping we had to do, we headed to Jungceylon for the last time, bid our silent farewells to the already familiar surroundings, and headed back to the hotel where a lethargic me drifted off to sleep, while the others were still talking and laughing about comedy sitcoms that were showing at that time..

Aftermath

Packing up our bags in the morning, we were soon ready to check out of the hotel, and say our goodbyes to the beloved island, Phuket, where 3 days of wonderful journey was embarked upon, and completed. The journey had been its 5Es, not only because of our action-packed itinerary, but also due to the company that we had (Thanks, Phuket gang). It definitely was too, a trip engraved in stone deep down within my heart, with it bringing on a voyage into a whole new episode...

November 27th, 2009

Time has indeed passed by in a huge FLASH, and its been more than a year since I last posted on this forsaken place called a "blog". So many things have happened in this past year, but as I do not want to waste hours facing this page, I shall just do an executive summary.

NOV 08
Spent more time with the K2 children up till their last day of school. Was really quite tough to part with them and to say goodbye. YES, my eyes were swelled with tears.

DEC 08
Went for a 10 day Japan holiday trip where i visited Tokyo, Kyoto, Kansai, Osaka, Kobe and the most fun of all, Universal Studios! Had a JOLLY good time with my dearest Aunt Soh Hwa & family, as well as my dearest mom and sister.

JAN 08
Can't really remember what I did much, but I rmb being a chauffeur for 10 days during CNY period delivering hampers to friends and extended family members with mom.

FEB - JUL 08
Taught tuition for about 6 months, did credit card sales for one roadshow, and taught as a junior band instructor for a couple of months. As for RECREATIONAL activities, played L4D with stella, elleen, penny, bryant, willie and carys and stayed out till dawn for ALOT of nights which were very memorable indeed (perhpas partially explaining my car's lousy suspension now). Watching movies with JC classmates, playing badminton with the very same L4D gang once/twice a week, and basketball with my NYJC "云雨" gang, were the highlights of FUN I had during this long break before university.

Oh, went back to Soka Kindergarten as well during this period of time for their annual Independence camp. Brought the kids to Science centre which was enjoyable as always, followed by putting up a skit where I had to play a sea dinosaur (because of the video screening they had), hereby leaving a lasting impression on the adorable children.

Also a small tribute to my performing group "THE TRIPLETS" for us having successfully performed 3 shows at 3 different locations (Suntec city, Northpoint and Centrepoint) with our self-made medley of songs. It was an enjoyable and fun experience indeed! Thanks Casper and Jonathan! =)

AUG 08
HALL 4 FOC! Words cannot describe how much fun I had during the camp, and how awesome NAGA was as an OG. Photos probably do the job better, which are all on facebook. I'm just glad that I decided to go for hall camp in the end (or even to stay in hostel for that matter), because the friends I have made during this period of time, are definitely those I want to accompany into the future.

SEP - NOV 08
Getting settled down into uni life was kinda hard at first (it still is difficult), but it was a matter of getting used to it. Had ups and downs with projects (at times due to grp members), but for the most part, I enjoyed them pretty much. Crapping around with grp mates and tutorial mates are what forms cohesive bonds best.

In the midst of being busy with hall activities (took up the role of Hall 4 Cultural Secretary) and all, mood swings developed. Mistakes were made in the way i treated my friends, which I still regret to this very day. Apologies were said, forgiveness was given (i hope), and the bonds of friendship evolved.

Through these ups and downs, exams arrived, and stress was derived. But that's the last thing of my worries now, because the exams have ended, and FUN has just STARTED!

Next? PHUKET... here i come! =D

October 27th, 2008

Looking back, the entirety of bonding I have had with these children started from the independence camp held on 30th - 31st August this year.

In summary: On that very day, myself along with several students/alumni played the role of teachers' helpers, and brought them to Singapore Zoological Gardens. Spending an entire day there from morning to late noon, we helped guide them around, aided in putting their raincoats on so that they wouldnt get wet, assisted in distributing bread when they were hungry, but for the most part, interacting and entertaining them, while getting entertained at the same time!
And when it was back to school for the remainder of the camp, we had a "camp fire" (lights and paper flames) while the children just danced their socks off. It was the most adorable sight ever! And then comes the story of when i got my nickname "Mr. X", where the students/alumni put up the skit for the children, and i played the evil villian, Mr. X.
When it was time to snooze, we tucked them in, despite them still retaining ALOT of energy. The next morning, when i thought i woke up early, some of the children were already awake! Evadne, Xin Hua, Shino were all awake by the time i reached the hall where they were sleeping at! And needless to say, I was sad when they went back home (along with feeling VERY lethargic due to having slept for 2 hrs).

And so that was the start of it all. Then came the preparation for their Graduation day event which was held on saturday (2 days ago). [This point on, i'll be using pictures together with words to continue..]

On the first day that Mrs Tay (SK principal) met up with several alumni in briefing them their roles for the actual day, i headed down to SK earlier to see the children in rehearsals. The teachers allowed me to stay with the children of twain (pm) in their classroom during their play time, and a handful of them gave me drawings (yea i know, how cute!)
From left to right: [Top] Gwyneth, Daichi, Hui Xin [Bottom] Eason, Gina, Jia Min =D

Some of the rehearsal pictures (skit + gym):

After that, i decided i want to turn up for all their rehearsals and start "practicing" my role of K2 Teachers' helper IC for the actual day. And so i took a picture of the schedule board (so much more time efficient then writing)

Rehearsal days:
Jia Min and her cutesy smile

Group photo with Yu Wei, Jin Hao, Gina, Srikar, Jia Min and Eason! (Blurred cos Jerry didnt know how to use my phone's camera -_-)

Same group photo attempt 2, they really cant stay till! (but still blurred)

By the time a focused shot was taken, only the 4 trees were left! (and my eyes were closed.. sigh Jerry..)

Colourful Candid!

Zhi Hui posing for my phone!

Pink dolphin playing with blue whale!

The other pink dolphin - Genevieve! (a really friendly and polite girl)

Miserable photo attempt with Cheryl the bird.

Better now! (with flash)

Another candid! (just before going up stage for full dress rehearsal)

Break time! (no prizes for guessing who's the camera man. coughjerrycough)
Wan Hsin ('twist' sign above my head), Daichi, Jia Min, Gwyneth. =)

Another picture:
Jin Hao, Yu Xuan ('twist' sign on left), Wan Hsin and others.

And yet another picture!
New person in photo at top left is Micah (same pronunciation as Michael).

Having grown so attached to them, I decided to get them gifts and made these! (bought 20 of the "crayon" erasers. Couldnt get for everyone as i didnt print money! Got the pencils as substitute instead.)

Actual Day (25th October 2008, Saturday)
Waiting in line for the graduation medal!

While waiting..

After the event, its photo time! 1st up, Evadne!

Shino and Sri Hari!

And now with me!

Next up, Wan Hsin (camera shy?)

Together with Yu Xuan now =)

Srikar! (See how happy he is having his graduation medal!)

Ken Jin! (didnt know that the sun was glaring at him until a while later, hence the face)

Daichi the playful!

Marcus! (and to think his parents looked after me when i was in pri school!)

Last picture of the day. Sobs. (Daichi, Yu Wei, and Yu Jia - right to left)

And with that, it was time to say goodbye.
I'm definitely going to miss these children!

Afterthoughts: Having been with them on and off for the past 2 months, i've certainly grown attached to them. I almost feel like i'm their parent, and when they put up such a splendid performance on saturday, I felt proud of them. When they sang their thank you song, i teared. I guess this is what parents' emotions are huh. Will definitely feel sad when november 12 comes (last day of their school), but nonetheless, i hope all of them will grow up to be wonderful and capable individuals like i mentioned in my *congratory speech!

*For the graduation day, I was asked to give a congratory speech on behalf of the alumni being the pioneer cohort of students.
For keepsake, here's the speech:

Good afternoon Gust of Honour, __________ and distinguished guests.

My name is Tang Qisheng, and am an alumnus of Soka Kindergarten, Singapore, having graduated in 1994. It is of my greatest pleasure to be standing up here to give a speech on behalf of the alumni.

Though it may have been more than a decade since I've graduated, three words still etched in my mind. They are “Strong”, “Righteous” and “Free” – Soka Kindergarten's very own school motto. Just days ago, I was looking at my Kindergarten enrolment photo memoir – which is framed and hung up in my living room at home – and these words from our School Founder, Dr Daisaku Ikeda, I felt I should share. Coining the children as treasures of the future of Singapore, he says “Children of the Lion are strong. They will not be defeated by anything. Children of the Lion are righteous. They are always honest. Children of the Lion are free and cheerful. They are always bright and active.” The reason I'm sharing these words, are because I find them not only meaningful, but noteworthy in that they have served as a guideline for me, from primary school up to my near-completion of National Service now. The school motto is applicable regardless of time and place, and time and time again, it has always remind me to stay strong even in the hardest of times, remain righteous even in the ugliest of situations, and to be free and magnanimous in leading a noble life.

I'm proud to call myself an alumnus of Soka Kindergarten not only due to being the pioneer cohort of students, but more so for the fact that it has given me a strong foundation at an early age. The curriculum in SK involves character building, development of a child's social skills through early exposure to various cultures, enhancement of thinking abilities from the projects they do, and so on so forth. These knowledge and life skills are imparted early, and have indeed served me well in the long run, and I'm sure would do the same for the graduands in the years to come.

Besides remembering the school values, I hope that the graduands will continue being Children of the Lion, and earnestly welcome them into being a part of Soka Kindergarten Alumni. Even until now, I still work closely with some of my kindergarten classmates – Stella, Jessica, Elvin and Wei Han - just to name a few – who are also helping out as alumni members for this event.

At this juncture, I would like to offer my heartiest congratulations to the graduands of 2008 in successfully completing their education in Soka Kindergarten, and sincerely hope that they will grow up to be wonderful and capable individuals who are Strong, Righteous and Free.

So that's it for this post (and my, what a long one it has ended up being), and to my Blyton, Twain, Anderson and Lorenzini children, hope to see u all soon!

October 18th, 2008

First and foremost, I'M NOT A PAEDEOPHILE. I just think that the kids are REALLY REALLY adorable with their innocence and ignorance (in a good way), and how carefree they act. It really brings u away from all the harshness of the world (politics, corruption, betrayal and what nots), and i feel a great sense of ease just hanging out with them, and taking care/looking out for them. But then again, u can say its a form of escapism? Though i probably can rebut by saying that its seeking ways of relaxation, but it knows no ends. Bleah, what am i rambling on about. In all, i adore these "kids of mine". Enough said.

Also just thought i would list out the names of the kids that i'm currently quite close to (i.e. i either take care of them directly during their outing to the zoo as well as independence camp, or have established close connections with them recently in preparation for their graduation rehearsal) and they are: Shino, Genevieve, Gina, Micah, Evadne, Charmaine, Hui Xin, Jia Min, Eason, Daichi, Marcus x 2 (spiky hair, and soft spoken mr blyton), Gywneth, Srika, Zhi Hui, Srihari. Should still have somemore, but will update the list if i rmb. I really do adore these kids. (oh i said that already? =X)

Another thing (of no relation to the kindergarten children) today was that some guy sitting next to me, while i was conversing to stella while waiting at a bus stop, suddenly turned to me and said (in chinese) "U kids nowadays sure like to speak in mix languages don't you? Like i was surprised when u spoke english, and suddenly switched to chinese and then back again. No offence, but its cos my kid does it too." That was like by far the RANDOMEST thing that i've came across to in my current 20 years of living. And just for the record, its because my chinese ability has greatly detiorated. I can converse in english in whole perfect, but i cant do so in chinese. Was talking to this chinese teacher (Zhang Lao Shi) from SK, as she takes care of Blyton/twain classes (which i'm close to and have been helping out since), and i was struggling just to find words at times! But still managed to scrape off a full chinese conversation though, with really poor choice of words sometimes =X. So yea.

Anyway, i hope more pics will come after next week's graduation day (with the kids!), and of course with my fellow alumni! (pomelo! okok, magnolia too. =P)
For now, i'll leave u with 2 pictures taken from the SK independence camp 08 courtesy of ERIC!

I'm sooooo in love with the movie already, even though it isnt even near its actual date yet, and i must admit i really love the song used in the trailer! October 24th!!

Speaking of which, there's so many things i'm looking forward to after ORD (or near ORD).
1) HSM3!!!
2) Vacation to JAPAN! - Tokyo, Osaka, Hokkaido (of which i'm visiting universial studios as well!)
3) Being able to SLALOM SO MUCH MORE!!! Maybe will have enough practice to join SNFC09 with the others.. lol. (though unlikely)
4) JUST BEING A CIVILIAN!

But for now, its just a couple of months to endure.

Skating progress: Yesterday practiced for abit before going for tat ming's 21st bday party, and i taught someone how to do crazy! Crazy improving already. Then after that practiced one foot, and my right one foot is really improving.. can go through all 20 cones without hitting already, but still slow down alot at the end, and can only clear at moderate speed. But its still an improvement! After that, shondy taught me and a couple of other beginners how to do Volt, as well as Crab. Know the breakdown steps of the moves already, so its BACK TO PRACTICE!

As for today, had CFG performance rehearsal, and i'm sooooo glad i bought the yamaha DGX 620, cos its just a brillant piece of performance instrument! Enjoyed myself while playing the songs for the choir together with the background music. And even more delighted when getting praised! ;) heh.

Oh, one last thing, I'm most probably getting the nintendo WII, after speaking with my family (mom and sis). They all seem interested in it, and its going to be alot of family fun, and what's 600bucks to make ur family closer! Haha, at least that's how i justify it. The games i'm gonna get at first? Wii sports that comes included, Guitar hero 3 of course, and probably mario kart or wii fit! I'm gonna be uuubbeeerrr broke, but then again, what's the use of pondering, when like melvin said "if u buy earlier, u get to enjoy longer!". And RJ students don't make illogical comments!

Till next time,
QS =D

SHAG!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Oops, havent posted for a while (partly to ensure that vanessa stays as the 1st post =X). But to prevent it from becoming stagnant, shall type a short post.

The past week and days have been filled with alot of use of my own two feet, be it skating, running or doing parade rehearsals, and I must say i'm really starting to feel SHAG. But its the happy kind of tired though, which aids ur sleep, since i just totally 'concussed' the moment i hit the bed. I'm proud to say that thus far, i've managed to meet up to skate every saturday (4 consecutive weeks), and to also hit my personal objective of running 10km a week (3 consecutive weeks). So i'll just list out some of my progress so far.

Running (in order of runs):
1) 060708 - 4.8 km in 37 mins (around my house)
2) 100708 - 5 km in 29 mins (treadmill) [wk 1]
3) 150708 - 5 km in 27 mins (in camp)
4) 170708 - 5 km in 25 mins (in camp) [wk 2]
5) 230708 - 10 km in 53 mins (in camp) [wk 3]

Skating:
1) 1st week: practiced on moves i already knew - front snake, cross. Learnt: alternate cross
2) 2nd week: Attempted one foot. Can only do at a slow pace and lose speed towards the end for 20 cones. Also tried to do back snake and back cross from shondy. Didnt go so well. Learnt: one foot
3) 3rd week: Practiced on back cross and back snake, able to execute both generally ok. Had a few successful runs without hitting cones. Was taught front cross nelson and snake nelson and crazy by benjamin as well. Learnt: back cross, back snake
4) 4th week: Practiced on crazy and nelson. Couple of runs without hitting cones. But got the gist of it already. Still have to practice on posturing. Was taught marbrouk by wbucket, still need to learn how to link all together, esp when doing reverse eagle. Learnt: Crazy, Nelson

Current skating progress moves:
1) Fish
2) Front cross (both legs)
3) Front snake (both legs)
4) One foot (both legs)
5) Back cross (right leg)
6) Back snake (right leg)
7) Front cross/snake nelson
8) Crazy
*All of the above still needs to be constantly practice though.

That's all for my post for now!

Idolisation - V

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
For those that do not know already (or those that might have a hunch), the V definitely does not stand for Vendetta, nor is it the victory sign. Instead, this post is dedicated to an idol of mine, who i've been a HUGE fan of, Vanessa Anne Hudgens.

It all started when i first watched High School Musical, and was simply captivated by the lead female of the movie the moment she made a first appearance and sang the song "Start of Something New". It indeed felt like the voice of an angel, with looks to match as well. It was infact (or u can call it that) an "idolisation at first sight", and as such, i hungered to continue watching more. And boy, was that the right move to do, as i continued to be amaze by not only her sweet vocals, but also how she showcased her amazing talent for dancing (even in heels!). The end result - i ended up watching HSM repeatedly (lost count after 4), not only because of my idol, but also because i love the way musical numbers are linked together in a movie. And when i officated my idolisation towards Vanessa (to myself), i became a regular at her fan sites, which is where i get most of her pictures -> www.vanessa-anne.org. Its also where i get updates on Vanessa such that i know what magazines to buy to accumulate the magazine cut-outs of V that is now currently pasted in my bunk wall!

Then came Vanessa's 1st CD Album release "V", which made me not only grow fonder towards my idol, but to also admire her for the talents that she truly has, and not just an eye candy that most guys' idols are (like angelina jolie, jessica alba, salma hayek - i recognise that their acting's good, but most guys just care bout their looks ). It was an album with songs that i felt was truly nice, unlike the other mediocre albums made by musical artiste like Ashley Simpson (No offence). At the same time, i was eagerly anticipating HSM 2, which further showcase Vanessa's triple threat talent of singing, acting and dancing. The movie i felt, was a great improvement from the first one in terms of the dance choerography, song tunes as well as building up of story plot (even though its still does not compare up to clever plots like V for Vendetta of course, but for a musical movie, its pretty much awesome), and also more importantly, there were so many scenes that vanessa had with zac that were just so uber SWEET! I may be a fan of Vanessa, but somehow seeing her in all the romantic scenes with Zac felt so... touching and heartwarming. Weird? But then again, don't everyone else feel that way, when watching romantic love movies, towards the male and female protagonists?

As for her nude photo scandal, i'm just going to clarify for the last time that it has in no way affected my admiration towards Vanessa, nor how i feel about her as a totally upright and moral actress/singer/dancer as a fan. First of all, i don't think that she did anything wrong, not when in our current SUPER-open minded society, its considered almost a NORM, and definitely more so in America where that mentality is of a greater extent. Secondly, she eventually had the courage to start talking about it and how she regretted about her 'mistake' as she acknowledges that she's now an important symbol in the eyes of children, which makes me as a fan, really proud of her. Lastly, not only do her talents outweigh her scandal by a galaxy-large difference, she has been doing charitable work even before she was famous, which truly shows that she has a heart of gold. Actually, there's so much more factors i would like to mention, but its pretty pointless when everything's already said and done, so it'll be just till here.

Right now, at present, Vanessa has released her Sophomore (2nd) album "Identified" which i find has songs stepped up a notch as compared to her 1st album. It has many of pop culture's current genre of songs which i think would appeal to most. So please do support her! Other than that, i'm just practically dying for HSM 3: Senior Year to premier in Cinemas in late October this year which will be the finale (for the original cast at least) and also another movie that Vanessa has been working on that's less well known "Rock On!". So i'll just end by saying that being a fan of Vanessa has been quite fun (its like another one of my many hobbies XD), and its actually quite exciting when used as a healthy obsession (i suppose?). But anw, Rock on baby V!
